Who said beauty has to be dangerous?
The beauty industry is sitting not-too-pretty after a wave of toxic scandals. Several states are now pushing for greater control over the virtually unregulated $50-billion industry. Two bills just introduced in California would eliminate toxic ingredients from certain personal care products; New Jersey, Connecticut and other states are following suit. So what is Big Beauty to do? Hire lobbyists and launch a public relations campaign to convince people their products are safe. Haven’t we heard this one before?
The good news is, while the mainstream industry fights for its right to use toxic chemicals, a more hopeful face of the future is emerging. Efforts are underway in the booming natural products sector to put real meaning behind the terms “natural” and “organic.” Last week, Whole Foods Market became the first major retailer in the US to create a private standard for natural personal care products. Products with the premium seal will be free of synthetic fragrance and some 250 synthetic chemicals, including parabens, PEG compounds and sulfates. Whole Foods’ own 365 brand doesn’t even meet the strict criteria for the premium label (the line will be reformulated). The race to the top is on …

What a wake up call this website is! I had no idea about the dangers in the products I use. Glad to see you’ve created a race to the top… Thank you.

We need more forward thinking, revolutionaries to stand up and talk about the crap that they make us think we need….and that is seriously toxic to us, the earth, our families and our future generations. Thank you!!!!
I am going to post this website on my myspace page and keep putting the word out there!

I have been the Director of the Cancer Prevention Coalition for Los Angeles for a number of years. I have been reading the research from Dr. Samuel Epstein, his articles, books and publications on chemicals in everyday products for over 10 years. I have been sending the information to the Campaign for Safe Cosemetics for the same.
Telling the truth about the beauty industry has been quite a shocking eye opener for me and everyone I share the information with. Unfortunately, most people have blinders on and do not believe the facts or truth even when handed to them with scientific publications. I am so glad that third parties are endorsing this information. The Public has the right to Know what chemicals they are putting in and on their bodies and that safe alternatives are available to them. www.publicsright2know.org

I’m reading “Not Just a Pretty Face” right now and am close to finishing it. What a superb book. However, coming to this site is even more enlightening. I knew about WF premium brand, but I didn’t know Jason was not meeting the criteria for it. I just bought a large tube of their body lotion. Now that has to get thrown out!
Fortunately, I’ve changed over all my products to non-synthetic items, but I will have to keep my eye on these products too.
Let’s make beauty radiant AND SAFE!
Thanks for protecting us! I’m spreading the word by getting my friends to read the book.
