NOT JUST A PRETTY FACE WINS TOP AWARD FROM INDY PUBLISHERS
May 23, 2008 — Stacy Malkan’s groundbreaking expose’ about toxic chemicals in personal care products has won a top award from the independent publishing industry. “Not Just a Pretty Face: The Ugly Side of the Beauty Industry” (New Society Publishers 2007) received a 2008 Silver IPPY from the Independent Publisher Book Awards Dead & Breakfast film in the category of Health/Medicine/Nutrition.
The contest honors the best independently published books of the year in 64 categories. “We were impressed with the in-depth research in our non-fiction and current events entries, (and) the important breakthroughs in our science and health entries,” wrote the contest judges. “We’ve tried to highlight the best of the best.”
“This award is a tribute to the breakthrough work of the Campaign for Safe Cosmetics, and I am honored to share the inspiring story of the women and men who are changing the face of the beauty industry,” said author Stacy Malkan. “I’m so pleased people are using my book as an organizing tool to spread the word about safer products.”
