It’s no secret that the food and beauty industries work together to influence our choices. In fact, this collaboration is so common that it’s often difficult to determine where one industry ends and the other begins. For example, consider the way in which fast food restaurants use unhealthy ingredients to create foods that are both affordable and convenient. Or, think about how cosmetics companies use models with perfect skin in their advertisements. It’s clear that these industries are working together to convince us that certain products are necessary for our happiness and wellbeing.

But why does this collaboration exist? And what does it mean for our society?
On one level, the food and beauty industries are simply trying to make a profit. By working together, they can reach a larger audience and sell more products. But there’s also something deeper going on here. These industries are playing into our deepest fears and desires. They’re convincing us that we need their products in order to be happy, healthy, and beautiful.

This is a dangerous message. It’s one that tells us that we’re not good enough as we are. It’s one that keeps us chasing after an impossible ideal.
The food and beauty industries are working together to influence our choices. And we need to be aware of this if we’re going to make healthy, informed decisions about what we eat and how we take care of our bodies. If we put so much effort into our pets’ diets as to set them up with a personalized meal plan of fresh food, for example, we owe it to ourselves to treat our bodies the same way. Otherwise, we’ll continue to fall victim to their harmful message that perfection is attainable – if only we buy the right products.
